About Us

Who We Are

What is a “Congregational” Church?

“Congregational” basically means that each church government is self-governing.

Our Statement of Faith

We believe that God revealed Himself to humankind through the Scriptures, consisting of the Old and New Testaments. We believe the Scriptures are inspired by God and therefore without error and authoritative over our lives.

We believe there is one God, revealed in three distinct persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, all equally God and all eternal.

He called the worlds into being, creates persons in His own image, and sets before each one the ways of life and death.

He seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin.

He judges people and nations by His righteous will, declared through prophets and apostles.

Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, born of the Virgin Mary, our crucified and risen Savior, came to us and shared our common lot, conquering sin and death.   Jesus ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of His Father.  He will return to Earth for a final judgment for all peoples.

He bestows upon us the Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ, binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races.

He calls us into His church

-To accept the cost and joy of discipleship,

-To be His servants in the service of others,

-To proclaim the gospel to all the world,

-To resist the powers of evil,

-To share in Christ’s baptism and eat at His table,

-To join Him in His passion and victory.

God promises to all who trust and believe in Him

-Forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace,

-Courage in the struggle for justice and peace,

-His presence in trial and rejoicing,

-And eternal life in His realm which has no end.

Our Covenant

“Confessing faith in God, our heavenly Father, and in Jesus Christ our Savior, and being willing to be guided by the Holy Spirit, we promise as members of this church to walk together as Christian Brothers and Sisters, obedient to God’s revealed and living Word, to worship, work, and serve together that we may express through our church and our individual lives, the love and faith taught by Jesus Christ.”   (from the Church Constitution)

Our Mission

To glorify God (Romans 11:36; I Corinthians 6:29; 10:31; Psalm 86:9) by making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 14:21) in Wakeman and the surrounding area (Acts 1:8; Luke 24:27) by calling them into a devoted community of worshipping and maturing believers (Acts 2:42); teaching, learning and maturing together in obedience to Christ (Ephesians 4:11-13); investing in one another (I Timothy 2:2); and sending them out to be salt and light in the community and world (Matthew 5:13-16).

Our Vision

To be a center for the reverent worship of God and for the biblical instruction of believers and their children (Acts 2:42), and a source of light and salt in the community (Matthew 5:13-16).

Our Values

Scripture – The Bible is the final and definitive revelation of God to man which teaches what man is to believe concerning God, and what duty God requires of man.

Jesus Christ – Jesus Christ is the Son of God whose life and ministry are unique and necessary to the salvation of man and thus our goal is to know Christ and make him known.

Regeneration – The new birth is necessary to membership in the body of Christ and to discipleship.  We emphasize this truth in our worship, teaching, and ministries.

Discipleship – Becoming and making maturing followers of Jesus Christ is the chief duty of the church and of its members.  We do this by introducing people to Christ and helping them to know him, investing in them, and teaching them in word and deed.

Family – The family is of divine origin and foundational to making disciples so that the church supports and strengthens the family in its ministry to all ages.

Fellowship – Fellowship is a key element of Christian growth and to strengthening the church and to incorporating believers into the church.

Community – We love the community in which God has placed us and desire as a church community and as church members to seek the good of our community.

Music and Arts – Music and the arts are gifts of God and signs of his blessing and we desire to use music and the arts to glorify God and benefit our community.
